The State of Colorado, like Cuba, was initially explored
by the Spanish Empire. It was admitted into the United States in 1876
and is called the "Centennial State" since its admission
into the Union occurred 100 years after the United States of America
was founded. It was the 38th State to be admitted to the United States.
The Capital of Colorado is Denver. "Colorado" in Spanish
means red which was the color of the Colorado river when first observed
by the Spanish explorers. Colorado is the 8th largest State of the
United States with a land area of 103,598 square miles. The highest
point in Colorado is Mr. Elbert at 14,433 feet and the lowest point
is the Arkansas River at 3, 350 feet above sea level. The economy
of Colorado is based upon agriculture, mining, tourism, technology,
healthcare and energy production and services.
